Page 12 *****NOTE TO USERS***** If you are using the image QUEST directly off the CD, some of the customizing and editing functions of image Quest will not work. A CD is read-only memory, meaning that the changes you make to image Quest cannot be retained by the CD. If you wish to have editing capabilities in your image Quest, you must copy it to the hard drive first. For functions that will not be retained by the CD-based image Quest, an * will be placed next to the function. Page 13 The Navigator's Main Fields CATEGORY The first field is called the CATEGORY field. It lists cross-reference key words and categories that are linked to the images in your index. Click once on a category word and image QUEST places all the images that have the word in its description line into the DESCRIPTIONS field. Each time you merge a module, this field will be filled with additional categories linked to that month s artwork. Categories can be deleted and new categories added by choosing ADD or DELETE CATEGORY from the EDIT menu. DESCRIPTIONS The DESCRIPTIONS field will contain a series of phrases briefly describing each image found by any of I.Q.'s search routines. These images can then be viewed by selecting BROWSE from the FILE menu and clicking on the "Selected" button. Page 14 The Toolbox. The NAVIGATION toolbox is made up of four different functions. The first button has a treasure map icon and is the equivalent to the FIND IMAGE option under the FILE menu. Pressing it will bring up the "find" dialog box into which you can type a key word for I.Q. to search for. The second button has an icon of a series of files and will perform the browse functions. The third button has two book icons and is the equivalent to the MERGE MODULE function under the FILE menu. The next button in the toolbox is a mailbox and will display a marquee message at the bottom of the screen. Page 15 menus The Navigator's Menus THE DG MENU The About image QUEST menu item will show the startup screen with the I.Q. logo and copyright information, as well as the number of images and the index file size. These information dialog boxes will disappear by clicking once on the image QUEST logo. The NEWS & EVENTS command is another unique feature of image QUEST. Selection of this option shows you a short sentence or two explaining some of the new products and special offers Dynamic Graphics is planning. First, copy the image QUEST directory from your first CD. Open this I.Q. and choose MERGE I.Q. INDEX from the FILE menu. A import dialog box will appear asking you to select the index you wish to merge. MAKE SURE YOU SELECT TOOLBOOK AS THE TYPE OF FILE YOU WISH TO MERGE. Locate the file called IQ15.TBK on your monthly CD, double click on it and I.Q. will merge the monthly images into your hard drive index. DISKETTE USERS ONLY The MERGE MODULE function pulls image information from a monthly module diskette. Modules include thumbnails of that month's graphics, along with the corresponding descriptions and categories. To merge a module, choose MERGE MODULE from the FILE menu. A dialog box will appear for you to select the module you wish to merge. MAKE SURE YOU SELECT TOOLBOOK AS THE TYPE OF FILE YOU WISH TO MERGE. Insert your Module Diskette into the floppy drive and double click on the file called "mod." When the merge is complete, I.Q. will update the categories. At that point, you can click on a category and begin searching for your desired images..esired images.mages. for your desired images.es.point, you can click on a category and begin searching for your desired images.ages.images. Page 17 The File Menu cont. The FIND IMAGE command is one of the primary functions used in image QUEST. This command searches for all occurrences of the letters that were entered (i.e.. "city" will return image descriptions such as "electricity"). This command should be used if you can't remember the whole description. You can type in a partial word and I.Q. will search for it. The images found will be displayed in the INITIAL DESCRIPTIONS field. Page 18 The File Menu cont. The BROWSE command is for browsing the images in your index. Browsing simply means that image QUEST will automatically scroll through a group of images you have selected, showing them to you one at a time. You can choose to browse ALL of the image in the index or only the SELECTED image in the Descriptions field. Browsing images with any of these options can be stopped at the desired image page by clicking the mouse. SAVE AS allows you to save your index file as another name and compacting it to the smallest size it can be on your hard drive. Remember to delete the old version so as not to get confused. The QUIT command functions much like any other application, asking first if you are sure you want to quit. You may want to compact your index file before exiting to save storage space on your hard drive. Page 19 The Edit Menu. The ADD CATEGORY* and DELETE CATEGORY* menu options allow you to add or delete category entries. Upon either choice, you are prompted to type in the category you wish to add or delete. These functions happen very quickly and do not give you a second chance to "OK" or "CANCEL" the command. After typing in your entry to be added, image QUEST will first search to see if that category may already be present. Then I.Q. will add your entry to the field and show you the area it was put into. The CATEGORIES field is organized alphabetically, so finding your desired category is quick and easy. CLEAR ALL* will erase all image information in your index leaving a blank Navigator window. This function only affects the I.Q. index and does not affect the actual art files on the CD. The AUTHOR* command is used to get into the scripting code of the image QUEST program. It will only allow this after entering the proper access password. Page 202 The Options Menu RETURN TO NAVIGATOR allows you to return quickly to the Navigator window. CONTINUE BROWSING will advance from the point at which you interrupted a BROWSE option. END OF USER'S GUIDE hem to a designated hard drive. Pull the Options menu down to "Retrieve Image From CD". A dialog box will appear. First enter the drive letter of your CD-ROM, then enter the drive and directory you wish to copy the file to and click the OK button.
